Principal's Message

Dear Gateway and Cherokee Families,

We are moving into the second phase of the Gateway Cherokee Consolidated Campus naming process. The first survey closed on October 9, 2020, with 43 possible school names.  Committee members met virtually on October 12, 2020, to narrow down school names to six choices that stood out more than others.

As we prepare to present the top three school names to the Area Superintendent and School Board, please select one school name from the choices given in this survey.  Survey 2 will be open from October 15, 2020, and close on October 21, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.  Please click the link below to complete the survey.

The new school's naming is open to all students, parents/guardians, and community members. If you have any questions, please contact either principal, Elaine Scott, [email protected],  or Rojina Durant, [email protected]

Welcome To Cherokee School

As the Principal, I am thrilled to be a part of a school community where family members are visible and actively engaged, as well as an integral component of Cherokee. I am honored and privileged to lead a dynamic school community where teachers and staff cultivate an environment where students achieve and believe in themselves and their school.  Your input, feedback and support will be critical to my leadership, the teaching and learning environment and above all too the success of your child in our school.

With our school's aim of having a greater emphasis on improving academic outcomes and high student achievement school-wide, Cherokee will continue to incorporate the core values of the school: Respectful Individuals, Responsible Leaders, and Reflective Achievers. Using these as our guiding principles, each child will be encouraged and supported in working to his/her full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

And to our Parents, Students and Families, remember it does take a village to raise a child; and I add it takes a very special school like Cherokee to educate them. Please know that I welcome your participation, support, and efforts as they are greatly valued and appreciated. We are in this together!

Thank you for all you do to help your child be successful at Cherokee School.

Rojina Durant, M.Ed.
